London Eye Machinery, Anglophile Friday

I thought I'd post the London Eye from a different perspective. I love these machinery shots. I hope you'll enjoy them.

View of Charing Cross Station

View of Palace of Westminster

Look hard, and you can see Buckingham Palace in the center of the photo

and in case you've forgotten what the EYE actually looks like from the ground:

One revolution per 30 minutes. Amazing views!
Worth the money at least once.

P.S.  Okay, I'm seeing a trend here in the comments. lol  This is NOT scary. The Eye moves so slowly that it never has to stop, even for you to easily step aboard. It CREEPS (maybe I should choose a different word here?) through the air. Feels like you're standing in a glass living room, but with amazing views. And only one pod has ever come loose and crashed to the ground, killing everyone aboard. JUST KIDDING!  It's a wonderful experience.

I would love the Eye but the Great Scot would have to be sedated... he's terrified of heights.
Thank you so much for your kind words and prayers, they mean so much!

Interesting shots of the workings of the London Eye. Makes one hope the welds hold tight! I Love the views but don't know if I could do it. It would be embarrassing to have a panic attack at the top!

A ride takes thirty minutes? I had not known that. Good thing you like the machinery shots as you must get a lot of time for those. Oh that is a timely mug...with the iris and all.

I love your photos. I didn't get a chance to ride it and wanted to! Some of the days when I toured London it was raining miserably. The day we were near the London Eye was the type of day where umbrella's were being turned inside out. Can't wait to go back and take a ride.

A ferris wheel is one of only two rides I go on, the other is the merry go round! So it doesn't look scary to me especially enclosed. Once again you've shown some wonderful photos with creative angles!

I am not one for heights, but if it takes 30 minutes to go around, I think I could do it. As long as the pod doesn't shake too much. My favorite ride at the amusement park has always been the ski lift! Lol!

I just read somewhere that the first Ferris wheel took 20 minutes to go around.....

We stood in line for a while and then decided to skip the London Eye and went to the London Aquarium. Did you have to stand in line very long? You got wonderful pictures of it.

Glad you like your mug! Here's to many happy cups of tea. I'll be in London next month and I think this needs to be one of my stops. Great pictures.

This is one of my favourite things to see when I am in London. The queue is constantly moving and when you are on you don't notice it lifting you high above the city. Brilliant place. Have a wonderful weekend. xx

My boys want to go on the Eye. They always mention it to me. :-)
I wonder if Lego makes it as a set to build? I should go ask my boys. That would be a cool set, they could build a Lego London.
Have a great weekend.

Oh, Judy, what a delight to find you (or shall I say that you found me?)! I LOVE your photos and find them absolutely fascinating! Being an engineer's wife, I so love seeing how things are constructed and operate. The view is magnificent, and I did not know that the London Eye moves so slowly and is such a beautiful and elegant machine. While I'm not a fan of heights, I might imagine trying this one, if I ever managed to get to the U. K. (my father was born in Scotland and came to the U. S. as a young lad...and I've always yearned to see Scotland). Thanks for sharing your beautiful photography and words. And I love so many of your "interests" in your profile...definitely of like minds! Hugs!

Hello Judy,
Wow, this looks amazing. How wonderful to be able to see all the beauty around you. If we met through Stephanie, we are surely blessed, indeed. She is such a special person. I love this little mug on here, and tea time is one of my favorite times of the day.

Thank you for following us at Red Rose Alley......and now I am following you too. You have such a lovely blog.

I must admit when I saw people standing up in the "Eye" I was thinking how scary that would be. So glad you stated it wasn't.
I got a big chuckle out of what you said about only 1 car has ever broken loose and crashed.

Your mug you received in the exchange is pretty.

Just found you through Joyce at The Other Side of the Pond and so glad I did. I've never even heard of the eye but it looks like my kind of ride with some stunning views. Thanks for sharing!

Happy weekend!

I've been to London several times, but I've never been on the London eye, so I really enjoyed that post!

Donna said...

Oh, that looks grand! I would certainly go!

J_on_tour said...

I'm sure you had everybody drinking in every word with the loose pod. some great views from the top.

Most of my London travelling was done before the eye was built. The only other more recent occasions were to do the Tower Bridge experience and a general tourism day that I covered in digital for the first time for the blog. Ooo, that was 4 years ago !

Hi Judy, I am perusing your London posts with great interest. We are in the beginning phase of planning a trip to London in the fall to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. We have been watching many Rick Steves YouTube videos and reading books from the library. Visiting London has been a lifelong dream of mine even though I have never been out of the country. Applying for a passport soon. Super excited!
