Anglophile Friday - George Gently, R.I.P.

Durham Castle

In Memoriam - George Gently. It was a sad night when we lost our favorite (fictional) detective. The stories are based in Durham, England. In case you haven't seen the series, the first ever episode is on YouTube (below.)

And now I have to go make stuffing for the turkey for our Early Thanksgiving. Family arriving tonight.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

George may be gone for now, but he can revive again as you re-watch shows. Enjoy your early Thanksgiving!

I too like the idea of losing a detective. Quick, Watson, the first 24 hours are critical: where did you last see him? I confess to never having watched George Gently, but I do like your photograph! Enjoy your early Thanksgiving, Judy. BTW, you will be amused to hear that I spotted a blog post the other day posing the question, "Why don't the British celebrate Thanksgiving?" I suppose I should have read it, but was feeling weak at the time.

I know your early family Thanksgiving will be wonderful and look forward to photos and stories! You now that Joe and I love Acorn TV and so many British shows but we have tried a few times to get into the Gently series and have not been able to stick with it. Will have to try again....

I have never heard of that detective. We recently got into watching Longmire on Netflix based in Wyoming. Quite gripping.

Happy Thanksgiving with family.

Happy Early Thanksgiving ... snow ... I hope all made it safe. Sam had a terrible drive home Friday night from F/F. He was so happy to pull in the driveway, and me so happy to see him pull in.

I have not watched George Gently, we will have to do so.

We watch so much American TV here it's nice when a British show gets good feedback. I enjoy the George Gently series but I must confess to enjoying most things with Martin Shaw in them - I've even seen him on stage a couple of times.

I hope it's just a fictional death as people seem to really like this actor. Now you have gotten us interested in checking out the series. I hope you are having a wonderful dinner together!
